Breakdown printing with year 1 BA

For the Tech X exhibition, some of the exhibitors also volunteered to offer shop demonstrations or workshops for the Tech X festival held during freshers week. I offered to do a short talk about my work along with a taster session. All of the year 1 BA students came along to see what it's like to have a go at printing, most of them, for the first time.

I wanted the activity to be nice and simple, and thought that doing the breakdown printed stripes at a small scale what be fun. I pre-painted the stripes on the screens so they were ready to go and luckily had plenty of print paste left over from the original exhibition print.

The prints the students got involved in were part as a collaboration onto two, narrow pieces of clot 2.5meters long.

The students seemed to have a great time printing and hopefully managed to bond a little, it does take a while for freshers to settle in and make friends, so I think it was a good icebreaking session.

I'm really pleased with the outcome of the two pieces and will put them up in the studio after they've been steamed and washed...
