My parents are renovating their bedroom and were getting rid of their old curtains... understandably as they are pretty dated and have been in the house even before we moved in back when I was 13! However the print is so lovely, it would be such a shame to see it just binned and forever forgotten about...
... So my plan is to re-design it up to a fairly modern standard. Ideally i'd like to have it finished and give it back to my mum as a present for Mother's day, probably as decorative cushions for the bed.
I want to keep the design simple but keep the detail of all the lovely flowers and the cute birds so i'm planning to design the whole thing in a single print repeat. I never draw flowers or birds so this is a first and i'm really enjoying playing around with this design...
For a design like this, from the very beginning i've been taught that using a dip pen and acrylic ink is the best way to draw up a detailed design that will easily expose onto screen. I know that i could easily recreate this in photoshop by scanning in the old print and fix it up digitally, but there's just something i love about physically drawing up a new print. It's a great feeling doing it all by hand.
